*****Deadly Poison by Love On The Run*****

**********NEW MIXTAPE ALERT**********
One day I placed the killer Deadly Poison record on deck, grabbed some tunes I thought would be really pleasing to "the heads", and hit the record button. I shared this recording with a couple of discerning ears, and was soon asked by Mark Gurney to have my mix hosted on the Independent Movement site. Just out to have fun, sometimes I mix, cut or just simply go with the flow and play the records. This recording was strictly made with lo-fi dirty Disco 7"s, so please enjoy the rugged underground sounds! CHECK IT HERE!
Mark Gurney from the UK has been running his killer website for some time now, hosting some amazing mixes by proper underground DJs around the globe, promoting parties, and been a party person for almost as long as the Pierce Brothers. I'm in really good company in that mix section. You can also find other recorded spins by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Keb Darge, Red Greg, Rahaan, Sadar Bahar, and a host of other great mixers on his site. Check it OUT OUt Out out ou o o o ....

It's time for another...

It's time for another special edition of Secret Rendezvous. Two rooms of tunes, don't miss it!

Lumberjacks In Hell vs Red Greg

The man Marcel Vogel in Amsterdam has been releasing a flurry of raw edits and sampled House chops for some of the tuffest DJs around the globe. He recruited Olivier Boogie and one of my faves Red Greg for his latest release below. Peep the sounds of Inner Rhythm, as that's really the tuff one for me! Killer!

180 Proof - The new label from Amir Abdullah

Peep it! 180 Proof Records is the new label founded by Amir Abdullah, Kon's co-pilot for the underground On Track mixtape series and Off Track compilations on BBE Records, and renowned label manager at Wax Poetics. Amir will be setting off the new label with unreleased cuts from Detroit’s Strata Inc label, a catalog which includes 30 unreleased masters in addition to the label’s 6 official commercial releases! These are coming straight from the original multi-track tapes, proper. Check some of the magnificent sounds below, and the official website HERE! I am also happy to be celebrating the launch of Amir's label at the next upcoming Secret Rendezvous jam on Friday, December 7th! Stay tuned for the details...

Fluorescent Smogg "All My Life"

Sometimes record collectors go crazy over a record in a way that defies explanation, but when you listen to this record, you'll begin to understand why people flip their wig over this little 7" disc of black wax. Only really gaining momentum a few years ago via Dave Ripolles, soul DJs' demand for a copy of this independent release by L.A. Connection's Wilber Richardson has gone through the roof. I think it's tacky to talk about price (as not to confuse market value with merit), and usually make a point to avoid doing so on this site, but to help put the mania over this record into perspective for many of you, the only copy I can find a recorded sale of sold for nearly $8,000 USD. This without a doubt falls into "Holy Grail" category. This extremely rare, danceable and most importantly absolutely beautiful tune makes the perfect case for record collectors gone wild. The myth that the bulk of copies sourced by Garry Cape in the 80s were thrown in the garbage because it was deemed "too soft" by most DJs at the time, only add to the record's mystique.
So you are probably thinking to yourself, "Why tease me with something I will never have?". Well, I'm not dangling the song in front of you just to torture you. It so happens to turn out that your friend (or possibly foe if you're the guy that paid $8K for this) Eaun Fryer just pressed a very limited number of these to accompany the upcoming Soul Spectrum compilation, promised to be stocked full of killer modern soul tunes. Buy it now, or spend the rest of your days regretting it. Check this LINK to purchase the album, which is scheduled to release on 11/25/12, and check out Fryer's soundcloud page for updates and other great records HERE.
There is also a party celebrating the release of this compilation on Friday, November 16th. So if you are in the area, or like flying out to parties, here is the info and FACEBOOK LINK. Guests: Ian Wright (Sisterfunk) Jazzman Gerald (Jazzman Records) Fryer (Soul Spectrum) GOOD MUSIC - CD GIVEAWAYS - TSHIRTS - VINYLS At Broughton Delicatessen, 7 barony street, eh36pd Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Evans Pyramid "Never Gonna Leave You"

This one takes me back a few years, back to our late nights at our Foreal People parties. I remember dropping this as a "last jam of the night", to a room full of very pleased heads.

A care package from Finland has arrived via Traveller Records!

Many of you may already be familiar with Masa Sutala from Finland, a guest DJ at Secret Rendezvous earlier this year, as well as the man behind Traveller Records and Kojak Giant Sounds record labels. You can imagine my excitement when my postman handed me a cardboard box with the KGS addy on it. I don't think it's a coincidence that our first winter snow arrived with my Finnish package today.
First record I snatched out of the box was the new DopeGems "Journey To The Shore" 7" on Traveller Records! I already heard a clip of this new band's cover versions of classic rare grooves "Journey To The Shore" by the Minority Band, and the sublime "Quasar" by Bennie Maupin, and I couldn't wait to spin the whole thing. I must have listened to this record 100 times already today. Needless to say I am super hyped on this new release by Dope Gems, aka Slikk Tim and his posse of funky banditos. It's encouraging to hear fresh new recordings of this caliber coming out of small independent efforts. For the underground, by the underground! Peep it!
Next up is this 1980 collabo between Finnish Jazz producer Heikki Sarmanto and American singer Jeannine Otis. These are some straight up "strong songs" taken off of their obscure LP, reissued for the first time ever on 7" courtesy of Traveler Records. This is the magic of a 7" press, for some reason this song sounds much more bad ass on 45rpm. I found a youtube clip of the LP cut, but trust me, you need it on the 7" press for that extra crunch! The lyrics are bugged, the band is tight, and the tempos are perfect for that intimate dance floor. Sporting a 4/4 rhythm perfect for the club DJs, this record still manages to maintain it's jazz roots, making it interesting enough to stand out as a special cut. Drop it late in the night!
Finally, completing the trifecta of underground goodies, Boyd Jarvis delivers us some deep House music from a long gone era of 1985 NYC flavored House, on 10" of the black wax no less. Boyd made his name in the underground in the early days, making classics with Timmy Regisford that were getting spins at underground hot spots like The Paradise Garage, and later on House Nation, and of course The Shelter. Forever caned by the big NYC DJs like LLV, Timmy, and NJ greats like Tony Humphries, Boyd is an underground legend. I'm happy to say I remember chatting with Boyd many evenings at the original Shelter at Hubert street, and he is one humble cat. It's nice to see he is out there recording and giving his records that unmistakable touch for a new generation of clubbers and DJs. Here is a slice of that unmistakable Jarvis sound: Enjoy the sounds, cop the vinyl, and remember, when you play it, say it!

The Trammps "The Night the Lights Went Out" Dimitri from Paris Re-Edit

After many New Yorkers not having power due to Hurricane Sandy, it's nice to see the power going back up in many downtown areas!

Jimmy Hyacinthe "Yatchiminou"

Crazy Afro-Disco-Funk thing I came across some time ago. My cover has some water damage, but it's all good with me.

A little modern soul for the grown folks here. This is a rare Jamaican 7" taken off of the Casual T LP that I've played a few times around town this past year.
